Travelling to a new country is one of the most exciting experiences in the world! You get to experience new culture, new people, and new food. It’s always good to be adventurous when exploring new culture, immerse yourself in the way of the locals, and try these awesome Dutch specialties!
Cheese: We may have spoken about this quite a lot, but cheese is famous here in Amsterdam! You’ll find plenty of cheese shops on your walks, and the free samples are great ;) Our favourite type? It’s got to be, Gouda!
Bitterballen: Bitterballen are a traditional meat-based snack here in the Netherlands. Typically they’re made from beef or veal (minced or chopped), beef broth, butter, flour for thickening, parsley, salt and pepper. Don’t knock ‘em till you try them! Usually found in any local restaurant.
Frites: They’re everywhere! And everyone loves them :)
Stroopwafel: These are sent from heaven. A stroopwafel is a waffle made from two thin layers of baked dough with a caramel-like syrup filling in the middle. There are other flavours as well, like honey and chocolate!
Kibbeling: Kibbeling is a Dutch snack consisting of battered chunks of deep fried fish, commonly served with a mayonnaise-based garlic or tartar sauce.
Tompouce: This traditional Dutch pastry is a local derivative of the Napoleon, and can be found in pretty much every bakery! Which are on every corner of the city center. Hope you’re hungry!
